Dominates Nadal and Ferrer reach record with eight titles at Roland Garros.
Rafael Nadal on Sunday became the first player in history to win eight editions in the same Grand Slam. The Spanish world number four, beat compatriot David Ferrer, the fifth, by 3 sets to 0 in the final at Roland Garros on Saturday. A partial match is defined in the 6/3, 6/2, 6/3.
Nadal, who was already of record titles at Roland Garros with seven victories, increased its hegemony in a match very troubled that lasted two hours and 16 minutes. The drizzle, steady for most of the game, left the clay court quite heavy and difficult conditions for tennis players.
The athletes were also hampered by the invasion of a supporter. Activist opposed to the enactment of the law by the French government approving gay marriage, he even set foot on the clay court with a flag in his hands, but was quickly contained by security.
